Ayden Owens, a sophomore at Arkansas, won the men's heptathlon with a Puerto Rican indoor record and No. 2 all-time collegiate performance of 6,272 points at the Razorback Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. Owens rallied from a 157-point deficit against Kyle Garland of Georgia with two events remaining, propelled by clearing 15-11 (4.85m) in the pole vault and running 2:35.93 in the 1,000 meters. Owens also ran 6.82 in the 60-meter dash, long jumped 24-4.25 (7.42m), produced a mark of 48-4.50 (14.74m) in the shot put and cleared 6-8.25 (2.04m) in the high jump on the opening day, before clocking 7.88 in the 60-meter hurdles to begin the second day of competition. Owens, who improved his personal best of 5,995 points from last season to eclipse the 2013 Arkansas program record of 6,175 points accumulated by Kevin Lazas, trails only the 2010 collegiate record of 6,499 points achieved by Oregon graduate Ashton Eaton.
